Islamlar has long been a favourite with many
tourists. The village is set in the Taurus Mountains, a twenty
minute drive from Kalkan but another world in terms of ambience.
Until recently it was only possible to visit Islamlar to dine in one
of the renowned village trout restaurants whilst admiring the views
across the mountain range to Kalkan and the long stretch of beach at
Patara.
Due to
its gushing spring water, Islamlar is an unusually verdant place and
the climate is decidedly cooler than that of the coast.
The village itself provides a real insight
into life as it has been in rural Turkey for many years. The çay
garden where the men of the village put the world to rights over
glasses of çay (tea), the bakery that still uses an old mill stone
and the village mosque all provide authentic Turkish ambience.

Islamlar is a
wonderful base from which to enjoy the region. It is like
taking a trip back in time, with a visit to the Old Mill which still
grinds out the flour the way it used to centuries ago.
The mosque in the village, where locals have prayed for years is a place
of
tranquility and beauty. Kalkan
is only a twenty minute drive away and the fabulous beach at Patara just twenty
five.
